Struga by the flow of the Crn Drim river and shore of Ohrid Lake.
Struga is a small city with 60 000 habitants (in the city live
approximately 17 000 habitants). Struga is situated by the shore of the
Ohrid Lake, which is one of the oldest lake in the world (around 4
milion years) and is protected by UNESCO and by the flow of Crn Drim
(Black Drim) river which is third biggest river in Macedonia. Struga is
multi-ethnic city where under one sky live Macedonians, Albanians,
Turks, Vlachos, Romas and Macedonian muslims; is multireligious city
where orthodoxs and muslims together live and in mean-time is
multilingual city where official languages are Macedonian and Albanian
(based in Macedonian Constitution every language spoken by more than 20 %
of the population is also official language). Struga is culturally rich
city, this year is celebrated the 50th year Anniversary of Struga
Poetry Evenings, an event with international dimension attended by poets
from all over the world. Also there are many historical buildings like
churches since 10th century, mousqe since 15th centry etc, the city is
surrounded by beautiful parks, during the summer is one of most
attractive touristic places with beautiful beaches in Macedonia etc.
South west region is culturally rich but economically poor, the rate of
unemployment is 27,7 %. Employment of male population is 37 % and women
population 17 %, which means that employment of male population is
almost double compare to female population. Because of this our
organizations is working on educational trainings for entrepreneurship
for young people with special accents on women.
PROPOSED ACTIVITIES FOR THE VOLUNTEER
Local
Development Agency Struga is an organization who works on local,
national and international activities and we the most of our projects we
are including youngsters from the local community. The EVS volunteer
gives a higher value to the activities that are being carried out and
the local youngsters are more motivated to work with people from abroad.
Upon arrival EVS volunteers will be introduced to Local Development
Agengy Struga where the volunteers will get familiar with the premises
and facilities of LDA as well as introduced to the staff, project team
and local volunteers. Later he/she will get more insight in the
functioning of each work area, the related project details and get to
know the staff persons that are in charge of the implementation of the
project. The volunteer will be introduced to the local community that
he/she will be working with because in any kind of youth work in this
area it is very important to know the local surrounding and the people.
This will contribute in getting an idea on “What it means to live in a
small city with 6 nationalities and 3 religions”. It also helps to get
an insight in problems of youth that live in the south-western part of
Macedonia and especially Struga. EVS volunteers will receive full
training needed for him/her to conduct the given tasks and also they
won’t be left alone to perform their work. The target group the
volunteers will work with are youngsters from 15 to 25 years old from
different cultural background. The volunteer can choose to work in one
of the following projects: - Organizing multi-ethnic activities -
Organizing workshops for life skill - Working in UNESCO Youth Club The
EVS volunteers will mostly work with youngsters aged 15 -25 years old.
OTHER ACTIVITIES AND TASKS
The
volunteer who will be working on the project “Organizing Multi-ethnic
activities” will be engaged in few activities as: - Organizing and
participating in photo exibitions on theme “Multi-ethnic dialogue” -
Organizing and participating in multi-ethnic creative workshops -
Organizing and participating in multi-ethnic sport events - Organizing
and participating in multi-ethnic educative camps - Organizing and
participating in multi – ethnic cultural events All above written
activities are part of the Annual Program of LDA Struga, and they are
implemented since 2007. LDA already has a team who is running this
project and its activities and also local volunteers from different
ethnics groups who are participating in those activities as volunteers
or participants. The role of the EVS volunteer will be helping the team
in organizing those activities, and contributing with new ideas how
these activities can achieve better results.
The participation of
EVS volunteer in these kind of activities will add international value
to the activities. In meantime the local volunteers will be more
motivated to participate in the implementations of the activities
because all of them will want to be part of a project which is runned by
foreigners. The role of the EVS volunteer will be firstly to promote
the project in local and regional level. The project will be promoted by
spreading leafleats in most frequent places of the city; through the
official website of LDA Struga (www.ldastruga.org); official facebook
site (Local Development Agency); by PP Presentations; in the web site of
our partner organziations and other ways of promotional tools. Secondly
the volunteer will be engaged in all project stage as: Planing,
Preparing, Implementation, Evaluation and Reporting. In the First stage
the EVS volunteer will contribute with ideas on theme of the
workshop/exhibition, the way how it will be promote to the public, how
will be used gained results, the place where the workshop/exhibition
will be held, and other logistic issues. In second phase i.s. preparing,
the volunteer will be engaged in finding working place, searching and
preparing promotional materials, support the organiziers, find new local
volunteers, promote the project.
The third phase will be
one of the most important phases where the role of the volunteer will be
coordinating the project, of course not alone but with the help of the
local team of LDA, arranging all logistic and tehnichal things, being in
charge of the activities etc. The phase of evaluation will be held in
varios phases. Firstly the volunteer will have personal evaluation where
he/she can evaluate how this project has influence to his/her
personality, and on the other side how the volunteers influenced the
project. The second phase will be evaluation with local team engaged in
the project, this phase is really important because through this we can
discover how does this project influenced in local community in breaking
stereotypes and prejudice about their co-habitans with different ethnic
background. The third phase and final phase will be with LDA team where
the team will evaluate and rate how the activities and the arrangements
has been realized, what has to be changed, proposing new ideas for next
projects etc. The reporting is also quite important because this
activity has multiply effect. Firstly the report will be used for Annual
Report of LDA Struga, Youthpass Certificate of EVS volunteer after the
project is finished andalso it can be used for asking for fundraising
and sponsors in future projects.
ORGANIZING WORKSHOPS FOR LIFE SKILLS
One
of the aims of Local Development Agency is creating sustainable future
for youngsters. The aim of this project is organizing
workshops/trainings where youngsters will have the opportunity to
develop their skills. As we know most of the youngsters from small towns
and rural areas cannot be develop professionally because of
geographical, economical, social obstacles so we aim on series of
workshops/trainings where youngsters will have the chance to learn how
to write good motivation letter, how to write cover letter, how to
create European CV, how to develop professionally, how to prepare
presentations, how to present themselves, presentations, different
entities etc, how to adapt in multicultural environments, how to work in
team, how to make films, how to create professional photography, how to
wear on formal meetings etc. Those trainings will help a lot for
professional development of youngsters from south west region of
Macedonia. The trainings will be held once a week and they will be open

things which will be really important for their future. Every week the

VOLUNTEER'S PROFILE LDA
Struga
for last 3 years is involeved in EVS indirectly. Many of LDA local
volunteers has participate in SOHO training course, trainings for
beginners in EVS etc. Also in Struga are other organizations which
already are accreditated so our volunteers had cooperate with them in
different short-term and long-term projects. First of all we are looking
for highly motivated youngsters who would like to work in multicultural
city. The most important for us is the volunteer to be able to adapt in
